Chemical peeling started thousands of years ago in the ancient Egyptian era. Queen Cleopatra was said to bathe in “sour milk” to exfoliate her skin. As gross as it might sound, a common facial acid lactic acid, is and AHA derived from fermented milk. Modern-day chemical peels have come a long way. We now have peels available to target very specific skin concerns such as signs of aging, skin texture issues, dullness, pigment and sun spots, acne, and acne scaring. 

Featured is the VI peel which is a mid-depth peel that combines a blend of acids, retinol, vitamins and minerals along with a numbing agent to make the experience comfortable. Patients will generally feel a warm, tingly sensation for the first few minutes of application, and this will subside once the numbing starts to work! After your peel is complete your skin will feel baby-bottom smooth, refreshed, and glowing. 

How should I prepare for my VI peel? 

* Don’t exfoliate for a few days before your peel

* Plan to avoid the sun for several days before and a week after the peel 

* Consider social events - generally the VI peel process is a 7-8 day total process. You will start to peel approx 2 days after the peel is applied. You may peel for 2-3 days “heavily” then have light skin shedding after this. Everyone’s experience is different and the same person can have different peel experience depending on the condition of their skin when the peel was applied. 

* Avoid makeup the day of the peel and during the heavy days of peeling

* Stay hydrated

* Plan to avoid intense exercise or activity where you may be sweating for about 3 days after the peel

* Understand that any acne “under the surface” may need to come up and this does not mean you are reacting to the peel or breaking out from the peel. 

* Lastly, prepare for new fresh skin and a fresh face!
